Get a free domain name and Web hosting for one year

It's the rare new business that wouldn't benefit from a home on the Web. Quite the opposite: If someone goes looking for a business like yours and doesn't find at least a simple Web site for it, well, that's a customer who's going to a competitor.
You might think that setting up shop online costs an arm and a leg, but it's actually one of the most affordable aspects of running a business. In fact, sometimes it doesn't even cost a dime.
For a limited time, Google is offering a customized domain name and one year of Web hosting absolutely free. (Don't let the "Michigan" in the accompanying screenshot throw you; the offer is also available in other states.)
In other words, here's a soup-to-nuts solution for getting your business online, one with a price that's impossible to beat.
In addition to a customized domain name (along the lines of "widgetmasters.com," depending on what's available) and a hosted Web site for one full year, you get a complete Web site courtesy of Intuit's site-building service.
Google Get Your Business Online
That gives you a choice of hundreds of templates, customization options to make the site more accurately reflect your business, analytics tools, and so on.
The especially good news for newbies is that it's all pretty drag-and-drop simple; you don't need any HTML coding experience or the like to build a decent-looking and functional site.
The only real downside here is support: You get 30 days of online chat support free of charge, and after that you're stuck with online forums and the like. (You can pay extra for live support, natch.)
Once your free year is up, you'll pay $6.99 monthly to keep the site and domain -- very reasonable rates by any account.
There are plenty of other inexpensive site-building and -hosting options out there, but if you want to get your business online quickly, easily, and as cheaply as humanly possibly, this is definitely a deal worth investigating.

How To Speed Up Your Laptop Computer

Do you ever get frustrated because yourlaptop computer is just plain too slow? You click on something and wait, and wait some more.

Well, I do, and it frustrates me to no end! I admit that I have very little patience to begin with, so when mylaptop is slow, I get irritated. Especially because I have so much work to get done, and I simply don’t have time to wait on a slow computer.
As luck would have it I found an answer to my slow computer. What I did to speed up my computerwas add some more RAM (Random Access Memory).
Now, you could go out and by a new computer, but that can get costly! So I want to recommend adding some more RAM to Your laptop. You will be surprised how simple this is to do. Not only that, it is very inexpensive also. I added 1 Gigabyte of RAM to my laptop for around $50.00 and mycomputer is twice as fast as it used to be! I was absolutely blown away by the difference in speed!
So if your laptop is slow, don’t go out and spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on a new one, just add some more memory to the computer you have. You can do it yourself with ease and save alot of money!
Also it will show you how much the memory upgrade will cost. Not only that, there will be an installation video that will show you how to install your new RAM upgrade to your computer.
What I will do next is demonstrate how simple this process is via sreencapture video and. I am going to actually install the memory upgrade on my laptop.

SPEED UP YOUR COMPUTER FOR GAMING

Any true PC gamer knows that frame rates make a huge impact on online gaming but also on overall game-time satisfaction. The faster your game the smoother your gameplay and the faster you’ll be able to shoot down an enemy.
In this post I wanted to share some quick tips for speeding up your computer while you play your games – both online and offline.

1. Disable Anti-Virus Programs

Antivirus GamingAntivirus programs are very well known for hogging system resources, especially when they have some sort of firewall or active scanner up and running. I have even seen computers where Norton was taking over 50% of the system processes!
The first thing I do before playing any game is to disable my antivirus program (I use a very low-key antivirus to start with, but turn it off nonetheless). Most of Anti-virus programs can be disabled right via the settings panel. But if you are super hardcore you can shut it down completely via the task manager.

2. Turn Off Skype, AIM & Windows Messenger

Skype OfflineSkype, AIM, Windows Messanger and other messaging programs can use up quite a bit of your system resources and slow things down. But also, I have had problems where I receive a skype call in the middle of my online game and it makes the game crash or it messes up the mic.
No need to message if you are playing a game – that’s what steam is for. So shut them off!

3. Close Useless Crap Via The Task Manager

Gaming Task ManagerMost people install tons of crap onto their computers, such as “iTunes”, “Office”, ‘Adobe” products and whatever else you are into. If you hit alt+control+delete on your keyboard you can then open up your task manager and close down some useless processes to speed things up.
Once you have the Windows Task Manager open, click on the second tab “Processes”. Here you can read the names and descriptions of all the processes running on  your computer. If you find any processes such as skype, firefox, adobe, itunes…etc that you won’t need while you are gaming, you can right click on them and hit “end process”.
Stopping processes that you don’t need for your games will help free up some CPU and Ram for your game.
IMPORTANT: Be very careful because you don’t want to end any core Windows processes. But, if you happen to do so, you can hit the restart button on your computer and it should boot up fine.

4. Overclock Your System

CPUZ GamingFor those a bit more advanced you may want to overclock your hardware to give it an extra boost of speed. Overclocking is basically running a computer component (such as your CPU, RAM and Graphics Card) at a higher clock rate  than specified by the manufacturer. For example, running your AMD Phenom II 955 at 3.8ghz instead of the default 3.2 ghz or your 1333 mhz RAM at 1600 mhz.
By sending a bit more voltage to your CPU, RAM and/or GPU you can speed up your games substantially. But be careful because overclocking your system not only voids any warranty on your Hardware, but it can also cause crashes or burn out your components if not done correctly.
If you want to try overclocking your hardware I suggest you do a search for how to overclock your specific hardware as many people have probably already done it and can help you overclock yours at a stable level. Otherwise you’ll have to go into the BIOS and test out different settings yourself before achieving a stable Overclock (you’ll probably have to do this anyway, as it is highly unlikely you will find someone with your exact PC configuration – RAM, MOBO, CPU, GPU).
I currently overclock only my CPU (i don’t bother with my RAM or GPU cause they are pre-overclocked by the manufacturer), but it gives me a nice little boost from 3,2 ghz to 4.0 ghz to speed up Call Of Duty.

5. Use The AMD Fusion Utility For Desktops

AMD Gaming FusionI recently started using a new program called the “Fusion Utility For Desktops” which is created by AMD and it comes with a gaming setting that when you click will automatically shut down all the useless processes for you. It is so hardcore it even changes your Windows 7 aero effects to the basic look to make things even faster. I strongly suggest it if you are really intense about gaming or if your computer sucks and is super slow.
Just be careful because it is a bit advanced and it can be a bit difficult for some people to get their computer back to “normal”.
Personally, I have been using this program everyday (since the beta release) and have had no issues. Works great for me.

Top 10 Ways to Speed Up Your Computer’s Boot Time

If there's one thing everyone dreads, it's rebooting their computer. It may only take a minute or two, but it can seem like forever. Here are our top 10 tweaks that'll make your computer boot a little faster.

This is a pretty controversial topic, as there are a lot of startup-tweaking myths out there. So, we took to the streets (of the internet) and searched for as many easy, well-supported tips as we could find. There may be others, some of which are controversial, but these 10 things are almost sure to get you a faster-booting machine.

10. Tweak Your BIOS

When you first set up your computer, your BIOS is set up to make things a bit more convenient for you, but once you're all set up, those things can be disabled. If you hold the DEL key when you start up your computer (or whatever key your BIOS tells you to enter setup), you can turn on the "Quick Boot" option and move your hard disk to the top of the boot priority list. The Quick Boot setting will turn off the tests your computer runs when it first turns on, and the boot priority tweak will tell your computer not to look for CDs, thumb drives, or other media when it first starts, which will get you booted into your OS quicker. If you ever need to boot from CD though, you'll have to go back into the BIOS and change this again before you do.

9. Clean Out Programs that Launch at Startup

One of the most tried and true ways to speed up your boot process is to keep unnecessary programs from starting up with your computer. You can do this by runningmsconfig from the Start Menu's search box, and going to the Startup tab. This applications list will tell you what each of those applications does, so you know which ones you can disable and which ones you don't want to. Previously mentioned Soluto is also a fantastic way to clean up these programs, and these days it's got a bunch of other handy features that make it worth a download.

8. Delay Windows Services That Run at Startup

Many people argue that disabling Services from msconfig will also speed up your boot time, but we've found that this is more problematic than anything. However, you can delay certain startup services so that your computer boots quickly and then worries about them later—after all, you don't need all those services the minute you start up your machine.

7. Change Your Boot Menu's Timeout Values

If you're dual-booting your machine, then your boot menu probably has a "timeout value", meaning the amount of time it waits for you to make a selection before it just boots into the default OS. On Windows, this timeout value is often 30 seconds, which is a long time to wait if you aren't looking directly at your screen. To change this timeout value, head to msconfig and click on the BOOT.INI tab, and change the number in the timeout box to something lower. If you're dual-booting with Linux, you're probably running the GRUB boot menu, and you can change the timeout on that too.

6. Disable Unused Hardware

Your computer loads a lot of drivers when it first starts up, some of which you might not even use. Head into the Device Manager from the Start Menu's search box, and look for anything you aren't using—Bluetooth controllers, modems, and virtual Wi-Fi adapters are common culprits. Right-click on the entry you want to disable and hit "Disable". Remember to only do this with things you don't actually use—if you use Wireless Hosted Networks, you'll need to keep those virtual Wi-Fi adapters enabled. It's also worth mentioning here that keeping all your drivers up to date will help this portion of the startup time, too.

5. Keep Your Antivirus Running and Up to Date

This should go without saying, but we'll say it anyway: install some antivirus software, keep it up to date, and run a regular scan. This is more of a preventative measure than an actual boot-speeding tip, but if you everdo get malware, it's sure to slow your computer's boot time. With a good antivirus around like Microsoft Security Essentials, you'll be more protected against that happening. Don't like MSE? There are somegreat ones out there too, so there's no reason not to have one around.

4. Remove Unnecessary Fonts

Since the dawn of time, Windows has loaded fonts at startup and slowed down the boot time. This is less of a problem than it used to be, but it can still slow you down a bit. Windows 7 loads over 200 fonts at startup; even more if you've installed Microsoft Office. Chances are, you use very few of those fonts, so you can hide them to speed up that process. In Windows 7, open up the Fonts folder from the Start Menu's search box, and check off all the fonts you don't need. Then click the "Hide" button in the toolbar. This way, if you ever want them, you can bring them back, but Windows won't load them at startup. Note that just removing a few fonts probably isn't going to make a noticeable difference—you'll probably need to get rid of a few hundred. That said, you might have hundreds more fonts installed than you realized, so that isn't as ridiculous as it sounds.

3. Upgrade Your RAM

Installing more RAM has always been an effective way of speeding up your computer, and that hasn't changed. RAM is pretty cheap these days, so if you're running low, there's no reason not to stock up and make your computer run a little smoother. We've gone over how to replace it in both a desktopand a laptop, and even for the inexperienced, it's a pretty simple procedure.

2. Give Your Computer a Static IP

When you first start up your computer, it spends a significant amount of time asking the network for an IP address. You can get rid of this process altogether by giving your computer a static IP address that never changes. Not only does this make your network easier to manage (since each computer will always have the same IP address), but it can shave a bit more time off your startup. Here's how to do it in different versions of Windows.

Install a Solid State Drive

These days, your hard drive is probably the biggest bottleneck in your machine. One of the best upgrades you can make to your computer is to install a solid state drive, which has super-fast read times that can speed up your startup considerably. They're certainly not a cheap upgrade, nor are they without their own maintenance requirements, but if you want to speed up your computer and its boot time, you can't go wrong by installing an SSD. The difference will be shocking.

Again, these aren't the only ways to shorten your computer's boot time, but they are some of the most well-known, trusted methods that we've found. If you have any of your own favorite tweaks, share them with us in the comments.
